Current projects
Himalayan Agroecology Initiative
Through close collaboration with governments in the Himalayan region and with support from a broad group of stakeholders, the World Future Council (WFC) and IFOAM – Organics International (IFOAM-OI) together with the Alliance Bioversity International-CIAT, UNDP India, LI-BIRD and Tarayana Foundation facilitate the development and implementation of a common roadmap for agroecology-based food systems. We are focusing on food system actors in India, including in Sikkim (Future Policy Gold Award 2018) and other Indian Himalayan states, Nepal and Bhutan. This initiative builds on the high-level digital event “Scaling up Agroecology in the Himalayas Together” in 2021, a roadmap-preparatory project as well as the Future Policy Award 2018.
The Kambashu Institute
2.6 million people live in Namibia, of which estimated 900,000 live in informal settlements. We believe that everyone should have the chance to improve their lives. But unfortunately, people who want this often don’t have access to the necessary knowledge and creativity. It is precisely this gap that we want to close with the Kambashu Institute. We invite people living in Windhoek’s informal settlements to develop new ideas and solutions and host courses in permaculture and horticulture there.

Organic farming and agroecology in the Himalayan region as mainstream
Appropriate policies that drive the transition to sustainable agriculture and food systems are urgently needed. We recognised the world’s best measures to promote agroecology with the Future Policy Award 2018 together with IFOAM – Organics International and now present this study.
Position paper: Scaling uo agroecology for a transformation of food systems
The position paper is supported by the World Future Council and many important players in agroecology and presents solutions that advance agroecology.
Brochure: Future Policy Award 2018: Scaling Up Agroecology
In this brochure we present the policies that won the Polit-Oscar for agroecology, including the famous 100% organic farming policy from Sikkim (India).

As a follow-up to the Future Policy Awards 2018, high-level policy experts gathered on April 28-29, 2021 at the digital event “Scaling up Agroecology in the Himalayas Together” to inspire key decision-makers with policy measures to support agroecology and organic farming in the region.

UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration
The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration is a call to protect and revitalise ecosystems around the world for the benefit of people and nature. It aims to halt ecosystem degradation and restore them to achieve global goals.
Foundation’s Plattform F20 (F20)
The F20 platform consists of more than 50 foundations and philanthropic organisations from different parts of the world. Together they call for transnational action for sustainable development and positive transformation to chart pathways to solutions to today’s most pressing challenges – climate change and a just transition towards sustainable development based on renewable energies. F20 wants to be part of the solution and builds bridges between civil society, business and the financial sector, think tanks and politics – within the G20 countries, among themselves and beyond.
Coalition of Agroecology
The goal of the coalition is to accelerate the transformation of food systems through agroecology, guided by the 13 principles of agroecology defined by the High Level Panel of Experts (HLPE) of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS).
Liselotte Foundation
The Liselotte Foundation is a non-profit foundation dedicated to education, health and environmental protection. The foundation concentrates its funding on activities at its headquarters in Hamburg and in Namibia. It is a supporter of the Kambashu Institute.
World Food Working Group (AKWE)
We have been a member of the World Food Working Group (AKWE) since 2022. The AKWE is a joint platform of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Agriculture and Food Working Group (AGLE) of Forum on Environment and Development (FUE)
Since December 2022 we have been a member of the working group whose concern is to anchor international justice, human rights orientation and economic, ecological and social sustainability more firmly in the design of national agricultural policy, agricultural development policy and international agricultural relations.
Buy Better Food Coalition (BBF)
We are part of the Europe-wide coalition of more than 100 members, calling for public procurement rules that work for the environment, consumers, and workers, and that provide healthy food to all European citizens in public places such as schools, hospitals and elderly care homes.
Consumers’ alliance Bio-Stadt Hamburg
We are part of the alliance whose main goal is to gradually increase the proportion of organic food in public administration. This way we want to create an example worth spreading and to increase the demand for regional organic products in particular. It is particularly important to the alliance to strengthen and develop local organic structures.
