Elevator speech

The World Future Council is committed to a healthy and sustainable planet with just and peaceful societies now and in the future.

Therefore, we identify, develop, examine and disseminate solutions and honour them with our unique Future Policy Award.

Our Council consists of 50 eminent global change makers who set the agenda for our work e.g. Jane Goodall, Dr. Auma Obama.

At the World Future Council, we are committed to a healthy planet with just and peaceful societies now and in the future. Therefore, we identify, develop, examine and disseminate future-oriented solutions to current challenges that humanity is facing and every two years honour them with our unique Future Policy Award. Our council consists of 50 outstanding global change makers from civil society, science, politics and business. It determines the agenda of our work and develops statements on it. The Council members meet annually at the World Future Forum to discuss the most pressing challenges and solutions to them. Jakob von Uexkull, the founder of the Alternative Nobel Prize, founded the World Future Council in 2007.

The World Future Council is committed to a healthy and sustainable planet with just and peaceful societies now and in the future. To achieve this, we focus on identifying, developing, highlighting and disseminating effective, future oriented strategies for the current challenges that humanity is facing and promote their implementation worldwide. The Council consists of 50 major global change makers from governments, parliaments, civil society, academia, arts and business. They identify urgent issues and set the agenda for our work and our Future Policy Award.

Our Future Policy Award, the “Polit-Oscar”, recognises political solutions that create better living conditions for present and future generations. Every two years we identify, develop, illuminate and disseminate future-oriented solutions to current challenges that humanity is facing and honour them in the area where political progress is particularly necessary. The Future Policy Award is the only award that recognises policies at an international level.

The founder of the Alternative Nobel Prize, Jakob von Uexkull, founded the World Future Council in 2007. The WFC is politically independent and operates as a non-profit foundation under German law. Our work would not be possible without the continuous financial support of private sponsors and institutional partnerships.

Our head office is in Hamburg. With our council members, we are represented on all five continents. In close cooperation with international organisations, experts and parliamentary networks, we identify sustainable and future-oriented policies and measures worldwide. We communicate directly with political decision-makers and convert our results into our educational work and support decision-makers who implement just policies for the future.

Our Council makes us unique and integrates different solutions into a holistic and international approach.

These cross-cutting issues have accompanied our work across the board:

  • Climate, Justice and Health

We are currently working on the following areas of work:

  • Rights of Children and Youth
  • Energy and just development
  • Food security and livelihoods
  • Peace and disarmament
