Jeffrey Opoku
Jeffrey is a sustainable development advocate from Ghana with an immense interest in the just transition to a low-carbon and sustainable future. He has been deeply invested in the field of environmental sustainability, for the past five years. His passion for making a positive impact began at the early age of 17 and that was exactly when he was first exposed to the 2030 Agenda and was deeply troubled by the level of plastic pollution in his community. In response, he initiated his first community-led project, providing environmental education and hands-on segregation activities to public schools in his locality. The success of this project motivated him to take on more initiatives including working on a two-year nationwide waste education campaign project and also founding the Sustainability Week Accra project, which aims at promoting education for sustainable development among university students. Currently, the idea of sustainability week has been operationalized in three other Higher Education Institutions in Nigeria, Tanzania, and Morocco whereby he oversees the efficient and effective operation of these projects. Jeffrey was also responsible for and successful in gathering a diverse community of about 125 young Ghanaians to deliberate on major environmental-related concerns at the country level and developed a youth position report which was fed into the Global Youth Environment Assembly and the fifth session of the UNEA negotiations processes. To conclude, He is also a youth present:representative at the World Future Council (WFC), co-leading youth engagement at the council.
