Catherine has a background in international climate policy, to secure strong climate action and climate justice, for a fair, just, safe future for all.

For many years, Catherine led the World Future Council’s Future Justice Commission. During this time, she focused efforts on long term governance, realising the rights for future generations, policies for future-just law making and recognising crimes against future generations. Her work included leading international efforts to establish a UN Commissioner for Future Generations during the Rio+20 Earth Summit in 2012. This high-level initiative eventually led to the announcement in 2024 to appoint a UN Special Envoy for Future Generations. She worked with governments and civil society around the world, advocating for intergenerational equity. She was invited to inform the mandate of the independent Future Generations Commissioner for Wales as part of the Well-being of Future Generations Act 2015 (https://www.gov.wales/well-being-of-future-generations-wales). Catherine helped to establish the Network of Institutions and Leaders for Future Generations (https://ourfuturegenerations.com/) and was part of early drafting stages of the Maastricht Principles on the Human Rights of Future Generations which outlines the legal framework for protecting the rights of future generations (https://www.rightsoffuturegenerations.org/).
