Crimes against Future Generations need to become taboo

How can we prevent and prosecute activities today that severely threaten the living conditions and health of those living in the future? This was the theme at the symposium of 120 international law experts in Montréal on May 28-29, where the World Future Council (WFC) presented its pioneering work on Crimes against Future Generations for discussion.

World Future Council welcomes Founding of International Renewable Energy Agency: IRENA will speed up Global Implementation of Renewables

“The World Future Council (WFC) has actively supported the creation of IRENA since the WFC was founded in 2007,” says Bianca Jagger, chair of the WFC. As an ardent supporter of IRENA, the German government had invited Ms Jagger to give a keynote speech at the preparatory meeting in April 2008. She is also present at the two-day founding conference in Bonn, Germany, starting today. “IRENA will constitute an independent driving force behind renewable energy and help to create a level playing field for the development of renewables in the Global South,” she said.

World Future Council protests against arrest of Thai Councillor Sulak Sivaraksa

“We sharply denounce the arrest of our Councillor Sulak Sivaraksa”, World Future Council (WFC) founder Jakob von Uexkuell said today in Hamburg. “Sulak Sivaraksa is one of Thailand’s most respected spiritual leaders. Arresting him on account of lese majesty is just another attempt to silence an inconvenient thinker and social critic.”

One year ago, in May 2007, the World Future Council was established. So far, our aim of speaking and acting for the
rights of future generations has touched many people all over the world. By participating in various projects, we have seen that important steps are already being taken in many countries to protect our future.

The Future Starts This Week in Hamburg

The World Future Council (WFC) has reached its full complement of 50 eminent global pioneers, representing all continents from the world of business, politics, civil society and the arts. Now, this strong new voice is about to get even louder.

World Future Council to be launched 2007 in Hamburg

The city of Hamburg will provide the core funding for the launch and initial phase of the WFC. The Head Office of the WFC will be sited in Hamburg from September 2006 and the full WFC inaugural conference will be held there in the second quarter of 2007. The other WFC offices will continue to operate.
