Project Manager, Non Haz City 3 EU Project

Mechthild Naschke is project manager of the NonHazCity 3 EU project, which raises awareness among the construction industry in the Baltic Sea countries about their circularity, especially with regard to their contribution to pollution and climate change through seminars and an award for cities.

Previously, she worked in various positions to promote a more responsible approach to chemicals. As a lobbyist for environmental associations, she accompanied the negotiations on the EU chemicals law REACH in Brussels. Later, she led an international team at an organic certifier to promote ecological textiles as well as leather, detergents and cosmetics. She is experienced in chemical assessment especially of textile and leather chemicals – dyes, additives in plastics and rubber as well as pesticides and has already worked on these aspects linked to core elements of the circular economy.

She studied textile engineering with a focus on textile finishing in Mönchengladbach, then spent 5 months with a local organization in Togo and a total of one year at the freiburg Ökoinstitut. For her subsequent master’s degree in environmental engineering and management in Lausanne, she conducted a life cycle assessment.
