Our Vision & Mission

The World Future Council envisions a healthy planet with just and peaceful societies now and in the future. To achieve this, we focus on identifying, developing, highlighting and spreading future-just policies for current challenges humanity is facing. We champion the rights and needs of current and future generations.

Our Councillors

The World Future Council (WFC) consists of 50 eminent global change-makers from governments, parliaments, civil society, academia, the arts and business who have already successfully created change. They identify urgent themes and determine the agenda for our work.

How we work

In close collaboration with international organisations, experts, and parliamentarian networks, we identify sustainable and future-just policies and measures worldwide. We communicate directly to policymakers, and the results of our work feed into our educational work, supporting decision-makers in implementing the best policies.

Jakob von Uexkull, the Founder of the Alternative Nobel Prize, launched the World Future Council in 2007. The World Future Council is politically independent and operates as a charitable foundation under German law. Our work would not be possible without the continued financial support from private donors and institutional partnerships.

Where we work

Our headquarters are based in Hamburg. With our Councillors, we are represented in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America an the Pacific.

There is no need to re-invent the wheel – political sustainable solutions for the key challenges of our time already exist.

The challenges of our time are very complex, so we use a holistic approach to our thinking and work.

Currently we are focussing on the following working areas:

OUR POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS CAN BE FOUND ON

“The World Future Council brings the Olympic spirit into politics. It creates a fruitful competition between governments and honours the most sustainable policies with the Future Policy Award. As an athlete I fundamentally support this.”

“I very much appreciate the World Future Council’s work to identify and promote best policy solutions. Spreading good policies is essential to the efforts to protect our ecosystems and the livelihoods of current and future generations.”

“Change happens by listening and then starting a dialogue. For this, it is most helpful to speak about solutions. The World Future Council’s “best policy” approach is a promising way to promote lasting change for a better future.”

“I pay tribute to the World Future Council which brings together such expertise to look at the most challenging issues facing policy makers across the world. I very much welcome the contribution the Council has made both in highlighting the challenges we face and bringing forward potential solutions.”

ANNUAL REPORT

Our latest annual report provides an overview of our international work since the beginning of 2021. We have been busy bringing together experts from around the world to discuss and share existing solutions to today’s problems.
