UNFCCC Side Event: Energy [R]evolution


Bonn: An energy revolution is needed to phase out coal and nukes in a just transition to 100% renewable energy by mid-century. At the UNFCCC conference in Bonn, we presented policy solutions that have proven successful across the world in enabling this transition. Other speakers included Kyle Ash, Greenpeace US as well as representatives from WWF.

Parliamentary Hearing

Brussels: The World Future Council hosted a Parliamentary Hearing in the EU Parliament on “Building Political Will for 100 % Renewable Energy in the European Union”. Nairobi: East African energy stakeholders were invited to this intensive policy workshop on how to unlock Africa’s untapped renewable energies potential, which was jointly organized by the WFC and Heinrich Böll Stiftung, Kenya.

ISEP Community Power Conference

Fukushima: Stefan Schurig, Director Climate and Energy, participated in the 3rd Community Power Conference in Fukushima, organised by the Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies (ISEP). The conference aimed to create a unified forum for those people working on community based renewable energy projects and to accelerate further development through discussion and knowledge exchange.

Stefan Schurig was invited to give the opening keynote speech on the “Realization of a 100% Renewable Energy Society”.

Japanese regions transition to 100% renewable energy

Tokyo, 31st January 2014: Local governments across Japan are seeking to supply their regions with 100% renewable energy, three years after the major earthquake which resulted in a nuclear disaster. At the Community Power Conference in Fukushima, the Founding Partners of the Global 100% Renewable Energy Campaign welcome the decision of Fukushima prefecture to be entirely energy self-sufficient by 2040 using only renewable sources. Among them are the Japan-based Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies (ISEP), World Future Council (WFC), World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) and the coordinating organization of the German 100% Renewable Energy region network deENet.
