The World Future Council (WFC) works to pass on a healthy planet and fair societies to our children and grandchildren. To achieve this, we focus on identifying and spreading effective, future-just policy solutions and promote their implementation worldwide. The Council consists of 50 eminent global change-makers from governments, parliaments, civil societies, academia, the arts and the business world. Jakob von Uexkull, the Founder of the Alternative Nobel Prize, launched the World Future Council in 2007. We are an independent, non-profit organisation under German law and finance our activities with institutional partnerships and private donations.

The World Future Council is looking for a

Programme Assistant “The Rights of Children and Youth” (m/f/d)

Location: Hamburg, Germany

Period: 1 March 2020 to 30 November 2021 with possible prolongation depending on funding

Working hours: 35 hrs/week 

Reports to: Senior Programme Manager Children and Youth 

Purpose of the job: 

The programme ‘The Rights of Children and Youth’ aims that the rights of girls, boys and young people are upheld and supported so that they may reach their full potential. Based on our Future Policy Award 2015 und 2019 we work on the topics protection from violence, education for sustainable development, the right to a healthy environment as well as youth participation and youth economic empowerment. The Future Policy Award in 2020 will be on protection from hazardous chemicals with a focus on children. 

Tasks include: 

  • Support with ongoing projects and programmes
  • Conduct research and write evaluation reports of nominated policies together with the Future Policy Award 2020 Team 
  • Establish a Children and Youth Forum within the World Future Council
  • Support with project management including coordination of project meetings, travels etc. 
  • Support with media releases, social media and website texts in coordination with the media team
  • Support with event management und fundraising 


  • Research experience
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English and German (other languages are an asset)
  • Ability to manage and meet deadlines
  • Academic background with knowledge in sustainability policies and law preferable
  • Event management experience
  • Basic administrative and office management skills 
  • Detail-oriented and organised 
  • High level of self-motivation as well as ability to work as part of a team 
  • Cultural sensitivity 
  • Ability to travel and occasionally attend events during evenings/weekends 
  • Knowledge on the subject would be useful
  • An EU work permit is required
