Prof. Motoyuki Suzuki

Professor Emeritus, University of Tokyo, Japan.

Professor Motoyuki Suzuki is an environmental engineering specialist. He was Vice-Rector of the United Nations University from 1998 until his retirement in March 2003. From 2003 to 2011, he worked as a Professor at the Open University of Japan. He previously held the position of Director-General of the Institute of Industrial Science (IIS) at the University of Tokyo. Prof. Suzuki has been actively involved in eco-restructuring initiatives. He was Principal Researcher on the project “Achievement of Zero-Emission Oriented Material Cycle Systems” leading a team of 70 researchers and the project “Management of Man-Environment Systems” which invloved 300 researchers, both funded by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology .He served as a Chairman of the Central Environmental Council, Japan from 2005 to 2013. He is the author of ten environmental engineering books and has published more than 300 papers in scientific journals. He was the President of the International Absorption Society, President of the Japan Society on Water Environment and the President of Society of Environmental Science. Prof. Suzuki has received numerous awards for his work such as the Ministerial Citation from the Ministry of Environment, the Scientific Achievement Award from the Japan Society of Water Environment, the Distinguished Research Award from the Society of Chemical Engineers in Japan, and the Doctoris Honoris Causa from Hungary’s Veszprem University.
