Iker Urdangarin Meabe
Advocacy and Engagement Officer – Climate & Energy.
Iker Urdangarin Meabe joined the World Future Council in April 2019, based at its office in Hamburg. As Officer of the Climate and Energy programme, Iker coordinates the advocacy and engagement functions of four of the team’s projects: DEEDS (DialoguE on European Decarbonisation Strategies), Open ENTRANCE, 100% Renewable Energy for Sustainable Development and Global Renewables Congress.
Prior to joining the World Future Council, Iker worked for GIZ’s “Cities Fit for Climate Change” project, where he supported the advisory services to integrate climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in the urban development policies of Chennai (India), Durban (South Africa) and Santiago de Chile. Further, Iker has worked for ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability organising conferences and forums on enhancing sustainability in cities.
Iker holds an MSc in Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security from the United Nations University and the University of Bonn (Germany). As guest researcher at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), he worked on coping with flood risks in the slums of Jakarta (Indonesia).
