It\u2019s a unique opportunity and imperative to recognise the rights and needs of future generations and nature to include them at every decision- making level and to integrate in the political outcomes of the Summit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The World Future Council has been a strong voice for the rights of future generations and nature throughout the process and actively involved in the drafting process of the Pact for the Future and advocating to support the call by the UN Secretary General and others, to establish a UN Special Envoy on Future Generations through meaningfully actioning the Declaration on Future Generations at the UN Summit of the Future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><a style=\"color: #ffffff;\" href=\"#intervention\">Read our intervention here.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This event will seek to explore the critical importance of institutional representation for future generations. Through an intergenerational dialogue, participants will engage in a thought-provoking discussion on how to ensure that the voices of future generations are heard and considered in today&#8217;s policy-making processes. The thematic focus will center on the need for sustainable and inclusive governance structures that incorporate long-term thinking, intergenerational equity, and the active participation of youth in decision[1]making. The event will bring together a diverse panel of experts, including youth leaders, policymakers, and representatives from civil society, to share insights and strategies on how to institutionalize the representation of future generations at various levels of governance. This interactive session aims to foster a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in creating governance systems that are responsive to the needs of both present and future generations. Ziel ist es, sich im Vorfeld im Konsens durch zwischenstaatliche Verhandlungen auf ein pr\u00e4gnantes, handlungsorientiertes Ergebnisdokument (A Pact for the Future &#8211; &#8220;Ein Pakt f\u00fcr die Zukunft&#8221;) zu einigen, das von den Staats- und Regierungschefs auf dem Gipfel verabschiedet werden soll. Dar\u00fcber hinaus k\u00f6nnte auf dem Gipfel die M\u00f6glichkeit der Einsetzung eines UN-Sonderbeauftragten f\u00fcr k\u00fcnftige Generationen er\u00f6rtert werden &#8211; eine Option, f\u00fcr die sich der Weltzukunftsrat seit langem einsetzt &#8211; sowie andere institutionelle Reformen oder Initiativen zum Schutz und zur Verankerung der Rechte k\u00fcnftiger Generationen.<\/p>\n<p>Mit der am <a href=\"https:\/\/documents-dds-ny.un.org\/doc\/UNDOC\/GEN\/N22\/587\/47\/PDF\/N2258747.pdf?OpenElement\">8. September 2022 verabschiedeten UN-Resolution<\/a> sind die Modalit\u00e4ten f\u00fcr den Zukunftsgipfel festgelegt. Letztes Jahr, auf der UN-Umweltkonferenz Stockholm+50 im Juni 2022, standen die Beziehungen zwischen Mensch und Natur ganz oben auf der Tagesordnung, im Dezember 2022 wurde der Kunmig-Montreal-Rahmen f\u00fcr die biologische Vielfalt angenommen, und zuletzt wurde im M\u00e4rz 2023 der Vertrag \u00fcber die Hohe See, auch bekannt als Vertrag \u00fcber die biologische Vielfalt jenseits der nationalen Gerichtsbarkeit (BBNJ), vereinbart. UN-Generalsekret\u00e4r Ant\u00f3nio Guterres forderte die Staats- und Regierungschefs der Welt auf, den \u201esinnlosen und selbstm\u00f6rderischen Krieg gegen die Natur\u201c zu beenden: Wir wissen, was zu tun ist. The World Future Council is well placed to play a leading role in the Summit of the Future, having focussed on the rights of futures generations as its main task since its launch 15 years ago. In particular, the WFC has long pleaded for Representatives\/ Guardians of Future Generations to be installed at international, national and local levels, with authority to scrutinize and propose policies to uphold their interests, including the right to peace, intergenerational justice, and a healthy, sustainable environment.<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations has now agreed on seven themes to be deliberated at the Summit of the Future: Global Economic and Financial Architecture, Human Rights and Participation, Sustainable Development Goals, a Global Digital Compact, Effective Environmental Governance, Peace and Security, and UN and Global Governance Innovation. It is also likely to establish a UN Special Envoy for Future Generations, and it could address other institutional reforms\/initiatives such as re-purpose the Trusteeship Council to enhance governance of the global commons (e.g. the oceans, atmosphere, etc).<\/p>\n<p>The WFC alongside its Youth Forum Youth:Present actively participated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/c4unwn.org\/global-futures-forum-process-and-objectives\/\">Global Futures Forum<\/a>, which aims to finalise and widely socialise a \u201cPeople\u2019s Pact for the Future\u201d to feed diverse civil society ideas and insights into official discussions on the Pact for the Future. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldfuturecouncil.org\/global-futures-forum-youth-present-statement\/\"><strong>Please read Youth:Present&#8217;s statement here<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>WFC has worked in all these areas for the last 15 years and is more the prepared to contribute its considerable know-how.
