...that the IRENA was created
The World Future Council strongly advocated an International Agency for Renewable Energies and called on the German government to support this cause. In January 2009 the IRENA was created and one year later it already counts 142 member states.
...that Great Britain has introduced a Feed-in Tariff
Through its contacts to several members of the British parliament, the World Future Council was able to explain the huge benefits of the German Feed-in Tariff model and to supply MPs with background information, data and striking arguments. The first British Feed-in Tariff was introduced on April 1st, 2010.
...that South Africa has a Feed-in Tariff
With a parliamentary hearing and its online toolkit PACT, the WFC decisively contributed to the introduction of the South African Feed-in Tariff.
…of the Future Policy Award’s worldwide recognition
The Future Policy Award of the World Future Council is the first prize to award sustainable and future-just policies on an international level. The Future Policy Award 2010, which celebrates extraordinary policies for the preservation of biodiversity, will be awarded, by invitation of the UN, at its 10th UN Convention on Biological Diversity in Nagoya (Japan) on October 26th.
…that our request, to define and if applicable to prosecute crimes against future generations, finds worldwide recognition
As a result of WFC workshops and symposia, which were attended by high-ranking lawyers and judges of the International Court of Justice based in The Hague, the request for considering crimes against future generations as criminal acts has become more and more acknowledged. A lively discussion on the New York Times online platform shows our success in awareness raising of this issue.
…of the African Renewable Energy Alliance
Representatives of government, the energy sector, private companies and NGOs initiated the foundation of the African Renewable Energy Alliance (AREA) at the WFC strategy workshop in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. The network reinforces the exchange of expertise and thus improves the framework for promoting renewable energies in Africa.
…of the successful work of our Alliance for Renewable Energy in the United States
Establishing the Alliance for Renewable Energy, the World Future Council has created a successful coalition to spread renewable energies. Due to frequent contact with politicians in workshops, conferences and individual meetings, the WFC positively contributed to the implementation of Feed-in Tariffs in several cities and states, such as the states of Vermont and Washington, as well as the cities of Gainsville (Florida) and Sacramento (California).
In addition, the States of California, Indiana, Colorado, Arizona, Florida, New York, Oregon and Michigan have introduced Feed-in Tariff bills into their parliaments.
