The WFC Africa Office

The World Future Council office in Johannesburg, South Africa, serves as the Foundations hub on the African continent.

Especially in Africa the accelerated implementation of Renewable Energy solutions is a mandatory condition for the protection of our natural environment, the halting of climate change and the improvement of human health. Thus, access to sustainable energy (electricity and heat) is vital for the achievement of all 8 Millenium Development Goals (MDG).

To create a stimulating environment for renewables, it takes integrated socio-political concepts. Frameworks, which have proven successful in other countries of the global South, should be adapted and implemented in Africa. However, knowledge about these policies is rarely disseminated across the continent.

This is why the World Future Council has initiated the African Renewable Energy Alliance [AREA], a platform for political decision makers, representatives from business and the civil society to exchange information and consult about political tools, technologies and financial resources. AREA will play a catalytic role in promoting knowledge transfer and international cooperation.

The knowledge exchange among our Alliance is facilitated on various levels. Next to the daily communication on the online platform area-network.ning.com we conduct monthly conference calls connecting participants from West-, East and South Africa. All members benefit from our web-based file-share system, the online AREA library.
