Axel Bree, Policy Officer (Climate/Energy)
Axel Bree has been Policy Officer on Climate in the World Future Council’s London office since September 2008. Before joining the team, he worked for more than six years in different positions with the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. This engagement included assignments to the Federal Chancellery and to the German Embassy in Washington, where Axel held the position of Energy Counsellor for two years.
Prior to that, Axel was a junior partner in the Berlin office of the law firm Jungnickel, Schmidt-Wottrich & Partner. In this capacity he advised clients on legal environmental and business matters, and, in particular, conducted a comprehensive study for the Federal German Ministry of the Environment on the relationship between the WTO and multilateral environmental agreements.
Axel has studied law in Cologne, obtained a Ph.D. degree from the University of Göttingen – on legal aspects of waste management – and completed a Master of International Law at the American University (Washington D.C.). His academic activities include various journal and book publications, lectures at the American University and at the Academy of Public Administration in Berlin, as well as guest lectures at various universities.
